What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy designed to treat trauma memories. When we experience an event that activates our nervous system, that is we feel something is uncomfortable, disturbing, overwhelming or threatening, this memory is stored in our survival brain, unlike neutral memories that can be processed and stored in our brain in a functional way.
When these memories are stored in our survival brain, this can result in anxiety, depression, panic or post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD).

EMDR is designed to resolve these traumatic memories by reprocessing them in a safe way. This results in our body no longer feeling like it is in a state of fight, flight or freeze, where we can achieve a sense of calm.
